Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between dog training and behaviour work?
Dog training focuses on teaching skills and commands such as recall, loose lead walking, and obedience. Behaviour work addresses emotional or behavioural issues like reactivity, separation anxiety, aggression, or fear-based responses.
What training methods do you use?
I use reward-based, force-free training methods that focus on building trust, confidence, and clear communication between you and your dog.
Can older dogs still be trained?
Absolutely. Dogs of all ages can learn new behaviours and improve existing habits with the right approach and consistency.
How many sessions will my dog need?
Every dog is different. Some issues can improve within a few sessions, while more complex behavioural concerns may require ongoing support over several weeks or months.
Do you offer one-to-one sessions?
All my sessions are one-to-one to provide tailored support to you and your dog giving them the best chance for a positive outcome.
Can you help with reactive or aggressive dogs?
Yes. I work with dogs showing reactivity, fear, guarding, or aggressive behaviours using safe, structured behaviour modification plans.
What happens during the first session?
The first session includes a discussion about your dog’s history, routines, and challenges, followed by practical training exercises and a tailored action plan.
Do you train in my home or outdoors?
Depending on the issue, sessions may take place at your home, outdoors, online, or in controlled training environments.
Do you offer online consultations?
Yes. Online sessions can be highly effective for many training and behaviour issues and are ideal for owners outside the local area.
What should I bring to a session?
Bring your dog’s usual lead, treats they enjoy, toys if relevant, and any equipment you currently use.
Will I need to practise between sessions?
Yes. Training success depends heavily on regular practice and consistency at home.
Do you guarantee results?
No ethical trainer can guarantee results because every dog, environment, and owner commitment level is different. However, you will receive clear guidance and ongoing support throughout the process.
What if my dog has bitten someone before?
I work with dogs with bite histories, this does not mean they cannot be trained. Please mention this before booking so appropriate safety measures can be put in place. Behaviour support is judgement-free and focused on safe, practical progress.
Do you use e-collars, prong collars, or punishment-based methods?
No. Training is based on modern, science-backed, reward-based methods designed to protect your dog’s welfare and strengthen your relationship.
Are family members welcome during sessions?
Yes. Involving everyone who lives with the dog often helps create consistency and better results.
How do I book a consultation?
You can get in touch through the website contact form, email, or phone to discuss your dog and arrange a suitable appointment.
What areas do you cover?
I work across Lincolnshire including Lincoln, Market Rasen and surrounding areas, with online consultations available nationwide.
What are your cancellation policies?
I kindly ask that all sessions are cancelled or rescheduled with at least 36 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 36 hours’ notice will be charged at the full session rate. This allows us to manage scheduling fairly and offer appointment spaces to other clients.
What are your payment policies?
Payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date unless otherwise agreed in writing. Payments can be made via bank transfer or any agreed payment method listed on the invoice. Late payments will incur late fees.
